Satisfacton with nursing care and influencing factors among patients receiving chemotherapy treatment

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the level of satisfaction with nursing care among patients receiving chemotherapy and to identify the factors influencing this satisfaction.

Material and Methods: This research was designed as a cross-sectional study. This crosssectional study was conducted with 140 patients receiving chemotherapy at Aydın Adnan Menderes University Hospital between November 2022 and March 2023. The data were collected by the researcher using a questionnaire consisting of two parts: the “Descriptive Characteristics Form” and the “Satisfaction Scale of Nursing Care in Chemotherapy Patients”. In the evaluation of the data, descriptive statistical methods (number, percentage, mean, standard deviation), Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal-Wallis H test were used. The data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 25.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).

Results: It was determined that %64,3 of the participants were male, % 72,9 were married,

%39,3 were between the ages of 56 and 70, 48,6 had a primary school education or below, %81,4 were unemployed, %47,1 reported that their income was equal to their expenses, and %41,4 were living in the city center. The study found hat satisfaction with nursing care increased with age (p = 0.048), and that patients whose income exceeded their expenses reported a statistically significant higher level of satisfaction (p = 0.024). The mean score on the Satisfaction Scale of Nursing Care in Chemotherapy Patients was 118.54 ± 25.95.

Conclusion: The findings of the study revealed that patient satisfaction with nursing care increased with advancing age. Furthermore, participants whose income was equal to or greater than their expenses reported significantly higher levels of satisfaction compared to those whose income was lower than their expenses. Overall, the results demonstrated that patients expressed a high level of satisfaction with the nursing care they received. The study also identified that nursing interventions play a critical role in directly influencing patient satisfaction.

Amaç: Bu araştırma kemoterapi tedavisi alan hastaların hemşirelik bakımından memnun

olma durumları ve etkileyen faktörlerin incelenmesi amacıyla yapıldı.

Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma, kesitsel olarak, Aydın Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Hastanesi’nde Kasım 2022 ve Mart 2023 tarihleri arasında kemoterapi tedavisi alan 140 kişi ile gerçekleştirildi. Veriler “Tanıtıcı Özellikler Formu” ve “Kemoterapi Hastalarında Hemşirelik Bakımı Memnuniyet Ölçeği” olmak üzere toplam iki bölümden oluşan soru formu ile araştırmacı tarafından toplandı. Veriler değerlendirilirken tanımlayıcı istatistiksel metotlar (sayı, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma), Kolmogorow Smirnov testi, Mann Whitney U testi, Kruskal Wallis H uygulanmıştır. Veriler free trial version of SPSS Statistics (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 25.0 programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir.

Bulgular: Araştırmada katılımcıların %64.3’ünün erkek, %72,9’unun evli, %39,3’ünün 56-70 yaş arasında, %48,6’sının ilkokul ve altı eğitim seviyesinde, %81,4’ünün çalışmadığı, %47,1’inin gelirlerinin giderlerine denk olduğu, %41,4’ünün il merkezinde yaşadığı saptandı. Çalışmada yaş arttıkça hemşirelik bakımından memnuniyetin arttığı (p=0,048), geliri giderden fazla olan hastaların memnuniyetinin istastistiksel olarak anlamlı bir şekilde arttığı (p = 0,024) bulunmuştur. Kemoterapi Hastalarında Hemşirelik Bakımı Memnuniyet Ölçeği puan ortalaması 118,54 ± 25,95 olarak bulundu.

Sonuç: Araştırma bulgularına göre yaş arttıkça hemşirelik bakımından memnuniyet puanlarının da arttığı, geliri giderden fazla ve denk olanların memnuniyet düzeyinin geliri giderinden az olan gruba kıyasla daha yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma bulguları çalışmaya katılan hastaların hemşirelik bakımına yönelik memnuniyet düzeylerinin yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Hemşirelik uygulamalarının hasta memnuniyetini doğrudan etkilediği saptanmıştır.
