Abstract

It is known that systematic power walking reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, and that a one-hour walk burns 400 calories in average.

The aim of the study is to examine the effect of walking exercises on the aerobic capacity, body fat rate and blood values of sedentary women. An eight-week walking program is regularly applied to the subjects 3 days a week. The aerobic capacities, body fat rates, body mass index and blood values of the subjects are measured both before and after the walking exercise in the study.

While, after the eight-week walking exercise, significant decreases (p<0.05) in weight body fat rate and body mass index, aerobic capacity, and glucose HDL LDL values are seen in comparison with the first measurements, no significance (p<0.05) in hemoglobin, erythrocyte, leukocyte, cholesterol, triglyceride values has been observed.

In conclusion, it is found out that walking exercises improve aerobic capacity positively and thus statistical differences in some blood parameters, body fat rate and body mass index occur with the increase of oxygen inhaled
