Discrimination in the working life: A sample of tourism sector

Abstract

Discrimination in the working life is one of the most important issues in the tourism sector. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of demographics factors on discrimination in the working life. First, a literature review was conducted and questionnaire was developed from the studies in the literature. In the first stage, before gathering the data from survey, job advertisements in tourism sector were analyzed and, in the second stage, content analysis was conducted on job application forms. In the third stage, data were collected by researchers in face-to-face interviews with 209 employees and were analyzed with PASW statistical programs. Structural and convergent validity of the data have revealed with the explanatory factor analysis. It was tested using a regression analysis to determine the effects of demographics factors on dependent variables. As a result, independent variables have effects on the dependent variable.

Mahmut Demir, Muğla Üniversitesi

I'm an assistant professor and also assistant director of School of Tourism & Hotel Management at Muğla University. I earned my Ph.D. in Tourism management at Dokuz Eylül University. My research interests are organizational behavior, HRM, and tourism management.
