Abstract

The Times Newspaper had been established as “Universal Register Daily” in 1785; it had taken “The Times” name in 1788. The Newspaper is like the official media organ of British Governments. The Times is also well-known with its unfavourable articles about the Ottoman Empire. This can be seen in these articles relating to Ottoman Armenians in the 19th century. There are great number of articles giving detailed information about the Cyprus Convention on June 4, 1878 between the Great Britain and Ottoman Empire, the occupation of Cyprus by the Great Britain and British reforms in the island in the Newspaper. British public opinion concerning the Cypriot people, the Ottoman System in the island, British reforms and Cyprus public opinion about those reforms can be seen in these articles. In this study, the Ottoman Administrative System and British administrative reforms in the island between 1878-1914 in Cyprus according to The Times Newspaper will be handled.
