The function of +CA suffix in the place names

Abstract

The etymological approach generally draws attention to the research on the name of the places in Turkey. Words in Turkish always use the latest addition on narrative and meaning structure. As some additions are used as both meaning and narrative structure, they may refer according to grammar. In this article, by an unorthodox approach, names of the places that +CA suffix name passes are mentioned and the function of this suffix on the names of the places that is effective on finding out the meaning of the name of places is pointed. At the same time, the feature of +CA suffix being derivational affix are showed by the names of the places. The names of the places that are seen in Istanbul, Sakarya, Kocaeli and Düzce provinces form the research material.

Author Biography

Mehmet Gedizli

He was born in 1972, in Turkey. He went to Fırat University in 1996 after took master degree from Muğla University in 1999 and finished his doctorate’s thesis in 2011. Master thesis’s name is Muğla/Kavaklıdere Yöresi Ağzı. He studied about an old Anatolia Turkish text. İts name is language features of ‘Aca’ibü’l-mahlûkat.

Mr. Gedizli wrote three books in turkish language. Their names are Yazabilmek (to able writing-entering to writing-), Söyleyebilmek ( to able speaking-entering to speakign-) and Okuyabilmek (to able reading –entering to reading-). He went on his the studies on teaching turkish language and old turkish texts. He knows two languages; Arabic and English.

Nowadays, he lives in Sakarya with his family and studies on turkish suffixes. He married and has got two sons.
