This study was performed to determine the health beliefs about protection from colorectal cancer and reveal the knowledge levels regarding CRC screening tests in individuals above 50 years of age. The population of our descriptive study consisted of individuals above 50 years of age, total of 136 individuals were included who were registered at the Filiz Dolunay Family Health Center in Erzurum District Center. A structured questionnaire including demographic characteristics and Champion’s Health Belief Model Scale was applied to determine health beliefs. Statistical analysis was performed on computer by using t-test. The data were expressed by mean and percentage values. In conclusion, in the present study, the Turkish population exhibited low levels of knowledge and inadequate participation for CRC screening, while requiring an improvement with regard to common health beliefs.
