Abstract

This study handles the fact of consumption, exhibiting acceleration as from the industrial revolution, with its different dimensions and evaluates its reflections in Turkey. Consumption norms, peculiar to industrial society, are being widespread among all social classes through mass media, while the information age has increased the consumption facilities through individual-focused communication methods. Consumption has become the individual’s reason for existence. Being one of the remarkable customers for global brands, Turkey maintains the consumption attitudes by getting into debt, despite imbalances in income distribution and gradually declining standard of life.
