Abstract

With the help of in-service education program, person gains especially occupational information, ability, attitude required for profession. Aim This descriptive study was designed to obtain data as regards the views, expectations and problems of nurses about in-service education and to develop applicable recommendations in the light of results derived in Canakkale State Hospital.Methods The subject group was selected using a simple randomized method and the subject group consisted of 185 nurses. Data have been gathered by researcher who went through the review of literature. The questionnaire, which consists of 31 questions, Obtained data were statistically analyzed with SPSS 10.0 program.ResultsThe result of the study showed that the majority of nurses (63.2%) have work experience 12 years and more. They stated that the orientation program was not applied to majority of nurses 76.2%, Whether the applied in-service education program meets the interests and needs of nurses change according to the nurses and 72.4% of nurses indicated that no practice  applied to evaluate the service education program.

The application of orientation for new nurses who works for health care service, the methods, process, and principles for service education program should be considered.
