Giddens and Global Democracy

Globalization, becomes one of the most debatable subjects in the recent epochs, as a concept that takes effect almost every area from economics to politics, from culture to social integration.One of the most powerful representative of new sociology theories, Giddens, who supports the idea of the necessity of reconfiguration of nation-states and their establishments, brings a new sociological aspect to the subject within the framework of democracy concept.In this paper, in the light of ideas of Giddens, the questions like “how is democracy affected by the globalization” and “will a new conception of democracy take the place of democracy in nation-states” are tried to be answered.Briefly, as a result of examining the globalization phenomenon and future of democracy within the framework of views and ideas of Giddens, the idea of “the necessity of reconfiguration of democracy and its establishments” appears from a sociological aspect.Downloads
